PWC useage per season?

We are looking to purchase a PWC for occasional use at the cottage. My neighbour says we should be looking at used because a two year old machine will probably only have a few hours on it. He states that people tire of these machines very quickly and they hardly ever get run after the novelty wears off. Is he right? What is the average hour useage of one of these machines over the summer?
