SD Drive is intermittent.?

I have a brand new Toshiba note book. The SD drive works fine when i first start my computer but if I pull the SD card out and put another one in or the same one back in it wont see it? It even makes the sound, but it disappears from being viewed? If I reboot it sees it again.
